Trading Controls

Balanced
The risk slider controls everything — what gets traded, how stops work, and how much the AI controls decisions. Slide right for more aggressive strategies (and more risk). Slide left for safety.

Doofclunk checks the market on one global server schedule for all users. No configuration needed.

Runs one market check immediately instead of waiting for the next scheduled check. If conditions are right, it may place a trade.
Start turns on the auto-trader. It will monitor the market and place trades when conditions are right. It only trades while the market is open (Mon–Fri, 9:30 AM – 4 PM ET).

Stop turns off the auto-trader. It will not sell your current positions — it just stops looking for new trades. Your money stays invested wherever it is.

Test how the AI would react to news events — without placing any trades. Great for understanding how the system thinks.

Market Notes

Share your market outlook with Doofclunk's AI. Anything you type here is combined with the live news feed and factored into trading decisions on every market check.

On conservative tiers, strong notes can cause the AI to block or reduce trades. On Growth and Aggressive tiers, the AI can also trigger entries on bullish notes or trigger exits on bearish notes.

Example: "Expecting Fed rate cut next week" or "NVDA earnings beat, guidance strong"
⚠️ Only use publicly available information. Do not enter material non-public (insider) information. All notes are logged with timestamps. By using this feature you agree to our Terms of Service.
Opens your Alpaca account in a browser. See your full trade history, real-time positions, P&L charts, and account details — even when this app is off.
Disconnects your broker account from this app. This stops all trading and monitoring. Your positions and money stay in your Alpaca account — nothing is sold.

Is my money safe?
Doofclunk Trades connects to your Alpaca brokerage account. Your money is held by Alpaca Securities LLC, a FINRA member and SIPC-protected broker. Doofclunk never has direct access to withdraw your funds — he can only place trades through the Alpaca API. You can revoke access at any time from your Alpaca dashboard.
How does Doofclunk trade?
Doofclunk uses a multi-layered analysis engine to decide when to buy and sell:

1. Technical Analysis — He reads 90 days of price history and calculates four indicators: MA crossover (20/50-day), RSI (momentum), ADX (trend strength), and volume confirmation. All four must agree before he acts.

2. Choppy Market Filter — If the ADX shows no clear trend (below 20), Doofclunk holds. No more buying into sideways chop.

3. Overbought/Oversold Protection — RSI above 70 blocks buys (too late), RSI below 30 blocks sells (possible bounce).

4. Volume Confirmation — Signals require at least 80% of average daily volume. Low-volume moves are ignored.

5. AI Context Filter — Doofclunk reads live news from multiple sources (Alpaca + Finnhub) and runs AI market-context analysis. On conservative tiers, the AI can block or reduce trades when it detects high risk. On Growth and Aggressive tiers, the AI can also trigger entries on bullish events and add to winning positions when momentum is strong.

6. Signal-Weighted Allocation — Capital is distributed based on signal quality, not equally. Stronger signals get more capital. The weighting intensity depends on your risk tier.

7. Protective Orders — Every buy attempts to include a bracket order with stop-loss and take-profit levels. If the bracket is accepted, your downside is capped automatically. If not (e.g. for fractional shares), Doofclunk places a standalone trailing stop as backup protection.

8. Drawdown Breaker — If your portfolio drops too far from its peak, Doofclunk stops trading entirely until you reset it. A circuit breaker for your account.
What are the risk tiers?
Doofclunk has 5 risk tiers controlled by the Risk Score slider. Each tier has its own watchlist, stop-loss settings, AI behavior, and capital allocation strategy:

Conservative (0–20) — SPY, DIA, TLT, GLD. Stop-loss 3%. AI can block trades. Equal allocation across all symbols.
Cautious (21–40) — SPY, QQQ, DIA, IWM, TLT, VYM. Trailing stop 4%. AI can block trades. Slight signal-weighting.
Balanced (41–60) — SPY, QQQ, AAPL, MSFT, XLF, XLV. Trailing stop 5%. AI protects positions — blocks risky buys and triggers partial exits on extreme bearish news (25% sell at 90%+ AI confidence). Signal-weighted allocation, HOLD symbols redistributed.
Growth (61–80) — QQQ, AAPL, NVDA, AMZN, AMD, SOXX. Trailing stop 8%. AI reacts to news — triggers entries on bullish events, blocks buys on bad news, triggers partial exits on bearish events, and adds to winners. Strong signal-weighting.
Aggressive (81–100) — TQQQ, NVDA, AMD, AAPL, TSLA, SOXX. Trailing stop 12%. AI actively trades on breaking news — triggers entries on rallies, sells 50% on high-confidence bearish events, adds to winning positions, and overrides cooldowns on strong momentum. Maximum signal-weighting.

Free and Trades ($10) users have access to Conservative, Cautious, and Balanced tiers — all of which use AI to advise or protect your positions. Smash ($20) users unlock Growth and Aggressive, where AI actively triggers entries on rallies and larger partial exits on bearish news.
How does auto-trading work?
When auto-trading is enabled, Doofclunk checks the market on one global server schedule — even when you're not using the app. He runs the full analysis pipeline (technicals, AI, news) and places trades if all conditions are met.

All users get the same check interval. Free-tier users can auto-trade with paper money. Paid users trade with real money.
How do I practice without risking real money?
Connect using Paper Trading mode when linking your Alpaca account. Paper Trading uses Alpaca's virtual cash to place simulated trades that track real prices — zero risk, real market conditions.

Doofclunk uses your full account balance (paper or live), split across your watchlist symbols. When you're ready for real money, switch to Live mode in Account Settings.

Quick guide:
• Paper Trading = virtual money trades, no risk
• Live Trading = real money trades
How do I switch from paper trading to live trading?
1. Click the Paper Trading button at the top of the app
2. Select Live Trading
3. Agree to the confirmation pop-up
4. Click Continue
5. Click Connect to Alpaca

That's it — no new keys or extra steps. To switch back to paper, follow the same steps and select Paper Trading instead.
How do I add money to trade with?
To deposit funds for live trading:

1. Go to app.alpaca.markets
2. Click Alpaca Connect
3. Select Add Funds and follow the prompts

Your money goes directly into your Alpaca brokerage account — Doofclunk never touches or holds your funds. Deposits typically arrive in 1–3 business days via ACH bank transfer. There's no monthly fee — Alpaca accounts are free.
How do I get my money out?
Your money is held in your Alpaca brokerage account — Doofclunk never holds your funds. To withdraw:

1. Log in to your Alpaca account at app.alpaca.markets
2. Go to Transfers → Withdraw
3. Enter the amount and confirm

Withdrawals go back to your linked bank account, typically within 1–3 business days. Note that recently deposited funds or proceeds from recent sells may have a settlement period (T+1) before they're available to withdraw.

You can withdraw any time — there's no lock-up or penalty. Doofclunk only places trades on your behalf; your cash and positions are always 100% yours.
Why is it not investing all of my money?
Doofclunk splits your cash equally across your watchlist symbols (e.g. 4 symbols = 25% each). But he only buys when all his conditions are met for a given symbol:

• All 4 technical indicators must agree (MA crossover, RSI, ADX, volume)
• RSI can't be above 70 (overbought — too late to buy)
• ADX must show a clear trend (above 20)
• On conservative tiers, the AI can block or halve trades if it detects high risk
• On Growth/Aggressive tiers, the AI can trigger entries even when technicals are neutral — if news is strongly bullish
• On Growth/Aggressive tiers, the engine adds to winning positions when momentum stays strong

If 2 out of 4 symbols don't meet the criteria, that cash stays uninvested until conditions improve. This is intentional — Doofclunk would rather hold cash than buy at a bad time.

Want more aggressive deployment? Raise your Risk Score. Higher tiers have looser entry conditions, AI-triggered entries on rallies, add-to-winners on winning positions, and maximum signal-weighting that concentrates cash into the strongest opportunities.
What are Market Notes and how do they affect trading?
Market Notes is a text field where you can share your own market outlook, observations, or context with Doofclunk's AI. Whatever you type is merged with the live news feed and sent to the AI analyst on every market check.

How it affects decisions:
The AI reads your notes alongside live headlines and adjusts its bias and confidence. On all tiers, if your notes create a strong bearish signal (e.g. "recession imminent"), the AI can block or reduce buy orders. On Growth and Aggressive tiers, the AI can also trigger partial exits (selling 50% of a position) when bearish confidence is very high, and trigger new entries when bullish confidence is high — acting decisively on breaking news in both directions.

What to write: Public news you think is important, your read on a sector, earnings expectations, macro outlook. Think of it as briefing your AI analyst before it makes decisions.

What NOT to write: Material non-public information (insider information). Trading on inside information is a federal crime under SEC regulations, regardless of whether a human or an AI executes the trade. Doofclunk Trades is a tool — legal responsibility for the information you provide rests with you.

Compliance: All Market Notes are logged with timestamps as part of your activity history. These records may be provided to regulatory authorities if required by law.
